Tarot Bomb!: Nine of Wands

What I love about the tarot is how quickly the cards can shake our foundations - but in a productive way, by shattering comfortable and cherished habits and assumptions. Or perhaps destroying trances we didn't even know we were in. After all, devastation stimulates new growth...

For me, the power of tarot cards lies in their ability to provoke a response from deep within the soul. And the beauty of tarot is that it amplifies our intuition, leading us to the truth we must hear.

The conceit of this blog is that each card forces our attention in exactly the direction it needs to go. In doing so, it pushes us to examine our patterns of thinking, feeling, and doing. And thus we become empowered...

Origin Story

Greensboro airport, April 2010. As my backpack moved through the X-ray machine, the TSA official raised his eyebrows, looked at me, then at his colleague. Pulled to the side, hands went carefully through my belongings.

Finally, the offending item is found: My tarot card deck. The officer examined it quizzically, turning it over with her fingers. With a sigh, she stuffed everything back into place, mumbling by way of explanation, "It was hard to tell on the machine..."

I hesitated to ask what it was about the deck that had raised a red flag. What did they think it was, a plastic explosive?
